Employee Q & A

What brought you to The Arc of Gibson County?

I was looking for a different line or work and my daughter suggested I apply with The Arc.

What do you like most about your job?

The best part of my job is interacting with our consumer and listening to their stories.

Who’s your role model?

My mother. She was confined to a wheelchair most of my life and unable to do daily activities on her own. I learned from an early age how people stuggle with different abilities. I have always wanted to help others like I do at The Arc.

What’s one thing not many people know about you?

I received a full scholarship to Butler University after high school. I declined it so I could stay home and take care of my mother, who was in poor health. I have made many sacrifices to help her and I would di it all over again if needed.

What’s your favorite thing about working at The Arc of Gibson County?

Everything! This is the best job ever. Now that I’m here, I will never do anything else.

What have you gained from working at The Arc of Gibson County?

I’ve gained more compassion for people with disabilities. I feel like society has labeled the I/DD community as everything bad. Once you get to know the people we serve you quickly realize they are very intelligent, capable and have more love to give then I could have imagined.

What are 3 words you’d use to describe The Arc of Gibson County?

Positive – Compassionate – Caring

What’s your favorite memory from The Arc of Gibson County?

My favorite memory would be the Halloween dance and watching our consumers having so much fun.

An advice for current / new staff?

Be patient. When I first started I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to communicate with certain consumers. It comes naturally!
