June 2017 – Nick Shade
Nick has been with The Arc of Gibson County for over five years and is the manager out at our Toyota Enclave. He assists consumers /team members working in a community setting so they can achieve success. Nick was nominated for our June Employee of the Month by Rocky Miskell who said ” Nick has been a part of the Toyota Enclave since the beginning and always showed great work ethic and a willingness to help better those around him. He always volunteers at consumers events and is a very hard worker. Nick truly has a good heart and puts others first.”

What brought you to The Arc of Gibson County?
I was looking for a new career path.
What do you like most about your job?
The happiness and joy of our consumers/ team members being able to work as one in the community.
Who’s your role model?
I have had many people that influenced me in my upbringing. But most of all, my mother was my best role model in my life. She showed me love, caring, hard work, dedication, passion, and respect of others. At one point in my life my mother was my supervisor in the nursing home that we both worked at and I wasn’t allowed to call her mom it had to be Mary Jane or Jane. She taught me so much about life and how to have a good work ethic. I loved her dearly and I believe she helps me everyday of my life now. So I would like to thank you mom. And my family is my role model they push me to work hard and be dependable and to be there for them. They are the best thing in my life besides work.
What’s one thing not many people know about you?
I never had a father.
What have you gained from working at The Arc of Gibson County?
I have gained a lot from working here at The Arc. One thing that I have gained is knowledge and know-how to help individuals to succeed in the work force. I also feel like I’ve gained an extended family.

Caring – Family – Honor
What’s your favorite memory from The Arc of Gibson County?
I believe one of my favorite memories is, one of the years I came to The Arc prom dance and one of my favorite consumers came running at me and gave me a big hug. She asked me if I would dance with her and we danced most of the night. I still have the picture of it on my desk.
What’s your favorite thing about working at The Arc of Gibson County?
The smiles of all our consumers/team members.
